Since its inception in 2002, the Minority Initiative Sub-Recipient Grant Office (MISRGO) at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) and its sub-recipient agencies have been at the forefront in the fight to eliminate the negative effects of tobacco in Arkansas’ minority communities.

that wish to advocate tobacco-free lives/lifestyle within their communities. In addition, MISRGO has placed tobacco settlement funding back into 80% of Arkansas counties for tobacco prevention and education in minority communities through community workshops and health communication initiatives.
Part of MISRGO’s service to citizens that reside in and outside of the State of Arkansas is the Annual Clearing the Air in Communities of Color Conference.
For the past 19 years, this event has provided practical skills and comprehensive information for individuals involved in tobacco prevention and education in minority communities, promoted the exchange of innovative programs and practices among individuals who are dedicated to eliminating disparities among different population groups, and improved disciplinary interaction and collaboration among professionals in tobacco prevention and education.
We partner with the Minority Research Center (MRC) to sponsor research that addresses the devastating effects of tobacco consumption within Arkansas’ minority communities. Review research and research opportunities that are focused on prevention, cessation, and eliminating disparities.
This mission is rooted in collaboration with trained professionals and advocates who help is essential in eliminating tobacco use.
